Our Travels: Greatest Hits

-smoke apple flavored tobacco from a hooka on Roi Sambutri road in Bangkok, Thailand and take in the backpacker culture.  Have several Chang beers and get an amazing foot and leg massage on the street as well.

-drinks too many beers, eat street food, meet a bunch of fellow backpackers and party your face off on Koh Sahn Road in Bangkok, Thailand (then go see an infamous ping-pong show)

-rent a bicycle and spend a half day riding amongst the ruins in Sukhothai, Thailand

-eat whole fried fish and garlic by the river in Chaing Mai, Thailand

-take one of the famous cooking classes in Chaing Mai, Thailand (pig out while learning)

-Chill for a while in Pai (pie), Thailand with the modern hippie culture.  Have spaghetti bolognaise and beer while fishing for pirahanna at the famous fish pond.  Drink the best gin and tonic on the planet at Almost Famous Bar.  Eat a proper sausage sandwich at “Big’s Little CafĂ©”. Take an elephant ride.  Go to the hot springs and soak in the steaming hot pools and mineral baths.

-read your favorite book for 1 ½ days while taking a slow boat from northern Thailand down the Mekong River into Laos, city of Luang Prabang. 

-go to the night market in Luang Prabang, Laos.  Buy a trinket or bracelet. 

-take in the nearby waterfall in Luang Prabang, make sure to swim in the pool and get your picture taken at the top

-go tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos, be aware of the police here and shady activities.

-spend a couple nights on a sleeper boat in Halong Bay, Vietnam.  Be amazed at the sheer beauty and one of the natural wonders of the world.

-take a night train to Sapa, Vietnam.  Hire a guide and spend a couple days walking amongst the mountainous terraced rice fields.  Stay in a homestay with the Hmong peoples.

-Get your fashion on: Have a suit and clothing custom fitted in Hoi Ann, Vietnam.  Walk endlessly through the fine tailoring shops and have dinner by the stream at night.  Take in the charm of the entire river front  lit up at night.

-Have lobster and giant prawns cooked for you on the beach in Nha Trang, Vietnam.  Continue your beach enjoyment by drinking “333 beer” and having a massage in your beach chair.

-Take in the Saigon, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) city center.  Be amazed and how many motorbikes can fit into a street.  Take a local tuk-tuk to the War Remnants Museum and be humbled by the atrocities of of the Vietnam/US War.

-Learn some history and visit “S-21 prison camp” and “The Killing Fields” in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Feel emotions and compassion for an entire people you never knew existed.

-Eat some famous “Happy Pizza” near the river in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Be prepared to lose a full day if you opt for “Very Happy Pizza”

-Swim in the warm relaxing sea off the coast in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Get too much sun, snorkel and play Robinson Carusoe on one of the next door islands. Smoke a little too much whacky tabacky.

-Be puzzled and amazed at the ancient architectural feats as you tour Angkor Wat’s temples for at least 2 full days, in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

-Learn to scuba or snorkel endlessly in the crystal perfect water off the island of Koh Tao, Thailand.  Make new friends as you eat a feast on the tour boat that day.

-take the cable car to the top of Penang island, Malaysia.  Soak in the view.  End endless amounts of some of the finest Indian cuisine not far from China Town.  Take the local bus to the wilderness forest and hike for a half day to “monkey beach”.

-get your picture taken in both day and night-time in front of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  Buy endless cheap souvenirs in the China Town Market.  Spend a ½ day at the open air bird aviary.  Spend a little too much and ride to the top of the communications tower for a view of the entire city.

-have tea overlooking the tea plantation in Tanah Rata, Malaysia in the Cameroon Highland Mountains. Hike through the local trails and mountain region, feel lost and awestruck of real nature.

-learn to surf on the crammed beaches of Kuta, Bali, Indonesia.  Feel the terrible affects of too much tourism. 

-head to Ubud, Bali and take in some serious culture.  Attend a Kecak Fire Dance, buy artwork, do yoga, stroll through the palm lined rice fields, drink tea, eat fresh fruit, buy locally handcrafted wooden souevenirs.

-Stay at least a week, rent a motorbike and feel the most pleasing breeze and freshest weather on the planet in Canggu, Bali.  Have dinner overlooking the ocean while the sunsets on Echo Beach.  Go see Tanah Lot Temple sitting out on the ocean.
